Why I started Playmat: a passion for kids' offscreen entertainment
I’m part of the last generation to grow up without phones and apps – and I truly appreciate the difference it made. I remember family dinners at restaurants filled with simple pleasures: coloring sheets, games, and rich conversations that connected all generations. It was a time when entertainment didn’t come with a screen.
A vision rooted in nature & family

Fast forward to having my own children. I realized that these small, simple forms of entertainment had almost disappeared. For many parents, the quick fix became handing over a device to keep kids busy while they tried to enjoy a meal or some downtime. Even though I wanted to keep traveling to beautiful places and staying in luxury hotels, I found myself always carrying a bag full of distractions to keep my kids entertained.
Why we do it
That’s when Playmat was born. I wanted to make it easier for parents to enjoy their time away without relying on screens. The goal? To provide children with creative, screen-free entertainment that lets parents truly disconnect and unwind. We now know how harmful excessive screen time is for kids, and it’s essential that we offer healthier alternatives.
A feminine touch

As we grow older, we realize that true growth happens in the moments between knowing what to do and actually doing it. As adults, it’s our job to step in and offer solutions that provide healthy, screen-free entertainment for children.
Top-notch hotels
Top-notch hotels are the ideal starting point. They already excel at considering every detail to create the perfect experience for their guests, so adding offscreen entertainment for kids feels like a natural fit. This aligns with the 5% rule from the philosophy of Unreasonable Hospitality, where spending just 5% of the budget on something meaningful makes a lasting impact.
At Playmat, we’re doing more than just offering a product – we’re giving families the chance to create memorable experiences free from the distractions of screens. Let’s bring back the magic of family time and make it easier for parents to truly enjoy it, too.
